The Inauguration Meeting of the Academic and Educational Grid Initiative of Serbia (AEGIS) was held on April 14, 2005. AEGIS is organized to: coordinate efforts to further develop academic and educational high performance computing facilities and integrate them in AEGIS infrastructure, organize dissemination and training activities, coordinate fund raising efforts to improve AEGIS infrastructure and human resources, as well as to facilitate wider participation in international Grid projects. AEGIS also aims to create a national Grid development policy, and to lobby for the position of this new technology within an overall research agenda.
